EmpowerK12’s DC Math Hub and the Washington Nationals are collaborating to host the first Capital Math Classic on May 14 in the PNC Diamond Club at Nationals Park.
Lunch will be provided for all participants.
The competition will happen in 45-minute rounds. Each team of four students will compete against the other teams in their grade band. Elementary teams receive 16 problems and secondary teams receive 20 problems. The math problems vary in point-value and difficulty. The highest score at the end of 45 minutes wins.
Elementary Division
Elementary school students in grades 3-5 will find problems they can solve.
There are four problems for each of the four categories.
The four problems range in point value from 100 to 400.
The point value determines the complexity of the problem.
Teams can divide and conquer to solve the problems in any order.
